NOSTALGIA
The Story
Some memories have a soundtrack.
Nostalgia is an expression of the music that shaped a generation — the Pakistani pop and rock of the 90s, the voices that travelled through cassettes, radios, and speakers, and the songs that became attached to moments we still carry.
Rather than simply looking back, Nostalgia turns that feeling into something tangible. It is an attempt to translate nostalgia from a memory into an expression — something that can be worn, revisited, and felt again.
The article brings together fragments of Pakistani music culture and reinterprets them through the language of MALANG: layered, tactile, and deliberately imperfect.
The Front
The front carries a screen-printed cassette — a simple object that holds an entire era within it.
Alongside it sits the MALANG name in Urdu, rendered in a musical, expressive type treatment. The artwork is applied as a cut patch from the inside of the garment, giving the piece a subtle layered construction and a tactile character rather than a conventional flat graphic.
The Back
The back carries a larger cut-and-applied patch built around the sounds and memories of Pakistani music.
Fragments of artists, musicians, and familiar song lines come together to form a visual archive of the era — pieces of music that evoke a place, a time, or a memory of our own.
The patchwork treatment makes the artwork feel collected rather than simply printed: like fragments of a past assembled into something new.
Nostalgia is not about recreating the past.
It is about carrying a part of it forward.
Care Instructions
- Hand wash recommended.
- Wash separately or with similar colours.
- Avoid machine washing to preserve the artwork and construction.
- Do not expose directly to harsh sunlight for extended periods.
- Dry in shade.
- Turn the garment inside out before washing.
- Avoid harsh detergents and excessive rubbing over printed or patched areas.
Craft & Finish
The artwork is built through a combination of screen printing and cut-and-applied patchwork, giving each garment a tactile, layered finish.
Because the article incorporates hands-on application and printed elements, slight variations in placement and finish may occur. These are not flaws — they are part of the character of the piece.
